Please write to your own MP to raise support for Guy. Please do not focus
directly on Guy’s case as parliamentary protocol dictates that a MP
can only intervene on behalf of his/her own constituent, as Jeremy
Corbyn is doing for Guy. Please write about the general policy concerns that Guy’s case raises.
If you don’t know check here who your MP is by typing in your postcode.
Here’s a sample letter - feel free to copy and paste:
RE: Home Office refugee and asylum policy
I am writing to express my concerns over the state of the UK asylum
system and the mixed messages being given by the Home Office. This has
been brought to my attention of Mr Guy Njike, N1007848, an asylum seeker
from Cameroon. Mr Njike claimed asylum on his arrival in the UK in 1999
yet had to wait until 2004 for his first interview and today in 2008 his case is still ongoing.
This clearly contravenes Home Office targets stating that an applicant’s case including the final appeal should be heard within six months. The delays in the
system and the bureaucracy involved are a waste of public resources and
create unquantifiable mental strain on applicants who must wait years for a
decision. I am also disturbed by the contradiction between Home Office policy and
their actions and the implications which this has on society as a
whole. The Home Office, and indeed the government itself place great
emphasis on the importance of an integrated and cohesive British society.
Yet Mr Njike, who learnt English, gained qualifications including a
Masters degree, works, pays taxes, has a vote, performed jury service, gives many
hours in voluntary service, attends church regularly and has a great number of friends, was informed by the Home Office that obtaining educational qualifications and
being supported by fellow students was evidence that Mr Njike entered
the UK for economic and educational betterment. Therefore, the Home
Office is giving the message to asylum seekers not to integrate into
British society else it will be used as evidence to discredit their case.
Given the international climate at present and the threats from extremists
this seems an extremely foolhardy signal to be giving out.
I see that the four leading London mayoral candidates this year have pledged support for an amnesty for undocumented migrants who have been in the UK for several years, to enable them to integrate into mainstream society and allow them to work and pay taxes legally. This is a great idea, yet Guy Njike has lived, worked and contributed to UK society for over 8 and a half years, but continues to live in uncertainty and fear of return to imprisonment and torture in Cameroon due to Home Office delays, flaws and inefficiency. The UK is willing to take from Guy but give him nothing in return.
I would be grateful if you would approach the Home Office on these
matters. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely

Thanks for writing to your MPs.
My MP, Lynne Featherstone, also Lib Dem, has just written to me today saying that hhe has written to the Home Office on Guys behalf.
She wrote:
“The Home Office’s Immigration and Nationality Directorate has failed to provide a service. which is efficient, effective, timely and fair for all. Please rest assured that my Liberal Democrat colleagues and I are committed to putting pressure on the government to address this enormous flaw. ”
I will see her in her surgey on Friday to discuss the issue further

Hallo - I have written again to Oliver Letwin asking if he has had a reply to his letter to Jacqui Smith re Guy Nijke.
I was at school with Lynne Featherstone (sat next to her in Alevel English!)) I also sent her an e-mail. Just an idea - if you go on her website there is a link to facebook - you will notice that she has many facebbok MP friends - would this be a good way to get even more MPs on board?
